Women of the ELCA

The February meeting will be a special meeting and you are invited. Pastor Keating has requested that we open our WELCA meeting on February 9 to anyone that would like to come for some brainstorming ideas about the future of St. Paul's. All are welcome, bring your spouse, this means men are included and any one that finds this time convenient for this important discussion.

This is how Pastor Keating put the idea of these Cottage Meetings:

"The idea of the meetings is not so much related to the new building as to the shape and future of the ministry and mission of the congregation in the coming years. We are asking people to dream and vision about what might be."

There will be several of these meetings targeting different groups within the church.  Many  "Cottage Meetings" will meet in homes. If our meeting time is convenient for you to discuss this important subject, please join us. We will have a short WELCA meeting at 10:30 AM and turn the meeting over to the Pastor around 11:00 AM. Bring a sandwich and fellowship with us for lunch as well.  Our hostesses, Janet Snader and Lois Biddle, will provide beverages, a salad and dessert.

Report from our January meeting of WELCA.  What was really nice we had 20 attend.  This is usually our low attendance month and had regulars missing.

We discussed how WELCA will go forward.  In June the current officers will step down and at the present we cannot find a nominating committee.  Would anyone like to volunteer for officers of WELCA?  If you have ideas or are interested please contact one of the current officers.  We did have an idea for less formal meetings called "Circles" and could meet in the homes or the parlor.  This way there would be no officers just hostesses to carry on month to month.  There was also a discussion for an interest in an evening "Circle".  If there is interest would someone volunteer to help us get this started.

In the fall we had a discussion on dropping the June meeting.  We had a vote in January and it was decided that the year for WELCA Meetings would be September through May.

We also voted on continuing with the School Bag Kits.  The vote for this was yes.  However, we will need volunteers for a committee to go forward with the planning of this project.

Since our monthly love offering is the main way we build our treasury, we are asking for a one time Thanksgiving offering over and above what you usually give.  We are providing envelopes and this can be given any time in the next two or three months.

We continue to be grateful for the continued support from the women at St. Paul's.  We look forward to having you join us for this wonderful opportunity for fellowship, devotions and service.

WELCA information has been added to the St. Paul's website.  Our thanks goes to Pastor Greg Eidell for doing this.

If anyone would like to attend any function for The Women of the ELCA and is in need of a ride please call Judy Lewis, (302) 836-9317 or Olive Barton (302) 366-8879.

Who We Are

Within the framework of the mission statement, Women of the ELCA carries out its purpose statement.

Purpose: To mobilize women to act boldly on their faith in Jesus Christ.

--Mission Statement--
As a community of women
created in the image of God,
called to discipleship in Jesus Christ, and
empowered by the Holy Spirit,
we commit ourselves to
grow in faith,
affirm our gifts,
support one another in our callings,
engage in ministry and action, and
promote healing and wholeness
in the church,
the society, and
the world.

All of the women of St. Paul's are members of this local and national organization of Lutheran women.  It was more convenient for the active age group of women at St. Paul's to meet during the day.  We understand that busy mothers and working women can't always participate, but are thankful for when they can join us or support our projects.  This helps us to unite all the women of St. Paul's.  It is a great opportunity for the women of the church to get to know one another and fellowship which enables us to accomplish more service.  Please feel free to join us when you can.  It is not something that requires attendance every month.

We meet in Fellowship Hall at St. Paul's on the second Tuesday of the month September through June at 10:30 AM.
