Annual Congregational Meeting

St. Paul’s will hold its annual congregational meeting on Sunday, February 25, immediately after the 10AM service of worship. Members should expect to receive a letter explaining the importance of attendance as a vote will be taken to approve proposed changes to the Constitution and Bylaws, as well as approving the operating budget for fiscal year 2024, and other important business. Come early that Sunday morning (8:30-9:30AM) and enjoy a pancake breakfast provided by the Scouts.

SOUNDS OF THE SEASON

The ministry of music at St. Paul’s will present their annual Christmas concert on Sunday, January 7 at 4PM. Featured will be Joseph Martin’s cantata, “Journey to Joy” presented by the Sanctuary Choir and chamber orchestra. There will also be offerings by the Matins Choir, the Handbell Ensemble, the Revelation Ringers, organ and harp, as well as opportunities for carol singing by the audience.

Free and open to the public. A freewill offering will benefit the Friends of Music fund at St. Paul’s.

From the Call Committee

Pastoral Call Process – Congregational Input
One of the aspects of calling a new pastor is to have a Ministry Site Profile completed.
The MSP encompasses the mission of the church, which assists the Synod in providing
candidates. Congregational input vital to this process.
The Call Committee is asking for your input today to help us complete three portions of
the MSP.

  1. Ministry Site Characteristics – For each line, read the statements on the left and
right. Consider which statement you feel most closely describes our
congregation, and whether it is a lot like us, or a little like us. Check off only one
    box per line.
  2. Top Five Ministry Tasks – Choose the five tasks you feel are most critical to
    require of our next pastor.
  3. Gifts for Ministry – Choose the five gifts you feel are essential in our next pastor
(left-hand column), and the five that would be very helpful (right-hand
    column).
The Call Committee will host workshop on Sunday, February 4, 2024, immediately after the 10 AM service. A box lunch will be provided for those who registered in advance.

Thank you for your participation and for your continued prayers and support!

Then, on Sunday, October 22, you will be received by the rite of affirmation of baptism and be welcomed as new members during the Sunday worship service that day at 10AM. Please try to join us for coffee fellowship prior to worship.

Please rsvp your intention to join us no later than Sunday, October 8, by emailing coordinator Linda Grund at lgrund923@gmail.com.  If this timing does not work for your schedule, we will be offering another opportunity in the spring. Meanwhile, we look forward to seeing you at church!

Welcome to Our Interim Pastor

The Reverend Barbara Melosh is a second-career pastor, ordained in 2005 after a
teaching career (English and history) spent mostly at George Mason University.
Her first call was to a small church in Baltimore city, a story told in her 2018
book “Loving and Leaving a Church: A Pastor’s Journey.”

Since her retirement in 2014, she has served as interim pastor in several Delware churches–Grace Lutheran Church in
Hockessin, St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church in Wilmington, Hope Lutheran Church in New Castle. Now begins her ministry here at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Newark as of Sunday, July 9,2023. We welcome Pastor Melosh with open arms as she bridges the gap between pastors and helps prepare us to call a new minister of word and sacrament.
