Senior Acolytes. On Sunday, May 18, at both services, we will honor our five senior acolytes who have served so faithfully and competently these many years. Cory Bart - five years Samantha Clements - six years Brendan Mann - six years Jennifer Colby - seven years Eric Sabisch - seven years We wish these very special young people much joy and satisfaction in their future.
Sunday School News: The Sunday School Spring Fair will be held rain or shine on May 18th, beginning after the late service. Along with food and games, including bingo for all ages, there will be a raffle for baskets created by each class. Tickets will be available this morning between services for the food and games. All proceeds will benefit the Terry Center. The last day of Sunday School this year will be on May 18th. If you are interested in helping out next year, please contact Anne Bolduc or Gale Paul.
Forum. On May 25th the Forum speaker will be Melissa Blauvelt. Melissa is a former president of the Lutheran Student Association and a speaker at the most recent Women’s Retreat. She spent a year, upon graduation from UD (in 2003), with the International Lutheran Volunteer Association and currently works at an international adoption agency in DC. Melissa just returned from a mission trip to Zambia, sponsored by St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in DC, and many of you supported her with supplies or monetary gifts. At the forum, she will be sharing pictures and stories from the trip to Zambia. We’ll also have a short time at the coffee hour to speak with her personally before the forum begins. We hope that many of you who know Melissa and/or have heard her speak will be able to attend what promises to be an interesting and inspiring talk.
Training for New Acolytes. If your child is moving into sixth grade or higher and would like to become a member of the acolyte team, there will be a training session between services on June 8. He or she will receive instruction and then attend the late service with the group to observe the acolytes in action. Any questions, please call Milton Markley at 302-731-9334.
Lutheran Night at the Blue Rocks. Join Delaware Lutherans for a night of fun at the Blue Rocks and at the same time benefit KenCrest and Mosaic, Lutheran social ministries in Delaware serving individuals with mental retardation and other developmental disabilities. Date/time: Friday, June 27, 7:05 p.m. at the Frawley Stadium in Wilmington. Deadline for ticket purchase is Sunday, May 25th, and the cost is $10 (proceeds over the normal cost are donated to KenCrest & Mosaic). June 27th is also FAITH NIGHT at the Blue Rocks and they will have a concert following the game by the Christian band, Sum of One. Vacation Bible School. God’s Big Backyard is the theme for VBS 2008! The church is teaming with the school to provide a quality, fun-filled program for all participants. This year, VBS will be held July 14-18, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. VOLUNTEERS are needed for the various activities and events planned. If you are willing to assist, kindly call Anne Bolduc at 368-0064 or e-mail her at anniebduke@aol.com. Look for more details as they are highlighted in future bulletins. Coffee Fellowship (9:30-10:30) every Sunday. We are always in need of people to sign up to either serve or provide snacks. Two people are needed to bring snacks each week as the demand has really increased. If anyone would like to serve who doesn’t know how, Cheri Simons will be glad to work a Sunday with them. Hope Dining Room, an outreach soup kitchen, provides meals to needy people in the Newark area. Hope Dining Room is located in Kingswood Methodist Church in Brookside. St. Paul’s provides a noon meal on the third Wednesday of the month. St Paul’s provides the people to cook the food and serve the meal. To volunteer, please call Kathy Dively at 302-836-3188. (Please note: Thank you so much to the people who have contributed the food items. We have had so many contributions that the cupboard is full! If you have more items, please save them until June.)
Newark Empowerment Center. “A Hand Up, Not a Hand Out” is a motto for the center, which assists the homeless in the Newark area. They are in need of lunch kits and hygiene kits. Lists of items to be included in these kits are on the bulletin board outside of the choir room. Copies are also available on the communications table. |
