Call Committee Bios

Gale    Gale Paul (Call Committee Chair) has been a member of St. Paul’s since 1993. She is currently an assisting minister and has served on Church Council, has taught Sunday School and worked with youth on special projects and has served as Sunday School superintendent. Gale graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a degree in Chemical Engineering and has a MBA from University of Memphis with a concentration in Organizational Development. She has worked for the DuPont Company for the last 35 years in primarily operations management roles. She is currently doing project management and consulting work for DuPont with external clients in the safety, environmental and operational excellence fields. Gale is married to Don and they live in Landenberg, PA. Their son Henry attends Lehigh University. Gale enjoys traveling, reading, hiking and being a fan of her son’s athletic endeavors.

 

Barb RhodBarbes has been a member of St. Paul’s for close to forty years. She currently sings in the Matins Choir, is a lay reader and Prayer Partner, teaches Confirmation Class, and serves as the coordinator St. Paul’s Code Purple program to provide cold weather sanctuary for Newark’s homeless population. She has recently served on Church Council, and as Council President.
Barb was raised in State College, PA, and received a BS at Penn State, which is where she met and married her husband, Bob. She was a stay-at-home Mom and part-time school aide while their two girls were young, and then returned to school to earn an Associates’ Degree as an Occupational Therapy Assistant. She worked in that position, with the geriatric population, for fifteen years before retiring two years ago. She is now able to spend more time volunteering for Girl Scouts, and enjoying her six grandchildren.

 

Bob PatBobterson has been a member of St. Paul’s since 2000. He is the co-chair of the Welcome Team and he also serves on the Transition Leadership Team, the Call Committee, leads the Greeters, is a Pray Partner and he and his wife have led a Prayer Small Group for almost ten years . Prior to moving to Delaware he served in the US Navy as a Naval Flight Officer retiring as a Commander. During his Navy career he graduated from NC State University with a BS in Computer Sciences. Later he obtained his MS from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA. After his naval retirement he joined Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC) where he was the Director of their global software development Process Improvement initiatives teams. He retired from CSC in 2013 and started supporting the Army’s Software Engineering Center at Aberdeen Proving Grounds as a consultant. He and his wife Michelle have one daughter who is a junior at Towson University. From a previous marriage Bob has three other grown daughters who live with their 10 grandchildren and husbands in Texas, North Carolina and Okinawa, Japan.

 

Deb BerkDebe has been a member of St. Paul’s since 1994. She is currently serving a second term on Church Council and is the Council representative on the Call Committee. She also ushers, is a lay reader and is involved with the Women’s Retreat. Previously Deb has co-chaired the Christian Education Committee and has been active in the newly reinvigorated adult Christian education planning group this year. Deb is the Director of Psychology Programs at Wilmington University, located in New Castle, DE. Prior to that she was a Professor of Family Science and Women’s Studies at Messiah College (near Harrisburg, PA). She is originally from Nebraska and her bachelor’s and master’s degrees are from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln while her Ph.D. is from the University of Delaware. She is married to John Roberts and lives in Newark, DE with their 2 cats.

 

 

Mike MikeMayer has been a member of St Paul’s since 1990. He currently serves as an usher, participates in Altar Guild, is a member of Property Committee and has recently begun singing in the Matins Choir. Mike has served on Church Council and served as a member of the St Paul’s School Board and Board Chair. Mike is a Professional Engineer (PE) and works for Delmarva Power (Pepco Holdings, Inc.). Mike was born and raised in Ohio. He has a bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Ohio State University. Mike has been married to Barbara Mayer for 36 years. They have a son and a daughter now living in Ohio.

 

 

Steve SteveLitterst was baptized Episcopalian, raised Presbyterian, and came to the Lutheran Church late in life (relatively speaking). A member of St. Paul’s since 2007, Stephen has sung in the choir, served on the Worship & Ministry committee and served on the church council. He is also an active lay reader, and assists with the technical side of the St. Paul’s website, and audio systems.
Stephen works at the University of Delaware handling lighting, projection and sound for special events on campus, and running the Mitchell Hall Theatre. Before returning to work at his alma mater, Stephen lived in Ithaca, NY, where he taught lighting and sound at Ithaca College, and before that in Richmond, VA, where, when not on tour for the Richmond Ballet, he enjoyed working with the youth of the church.
Born and bred in a briar patch called Laurel, MD, he earned his degree in Theatre Production form the University of Delaware. He lives in Newark, DE with his wife, Rebecca and their two adorable daughters.
