St. Paul’s Lutheran School

Spring has arrived!  The children are enjoying more time outdoors, and we are beginning to plant our garden again this year.  We will grow vegetable and flowers.  As we’ve done in the past, each class will grow, nurture, and even taste test their produce.  What great fun for them to grow tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, carrots, green beans, & peas as well as many types of flowers.

You may notice even more changes to our playground soon.  We will be replacing the current mulch with a safer more durable rubber product.  Also, the school will be purchasing a new picnic table so we can finally have some seating.  If anyone is interested in helping us spread the new playground surface or helping us to secure our new table, please give me a call.  With your help, we will create a safer place for our children to play while outdoors.

The last couple of months have been very busy for the school.  On February 6, Ash Wednesday, the children made noodles for the chicken noodle soup, then they baked the communion bread and rolls for the soup luncheon. The Kindergarten students were thrilled to help serve their own baked rolls to the adults.  On March 3, we celebrated Dr Seuss’s birthday by allowing the children to make “green eggs and ham” for their morning snack.  I was amazed, as so many children loved this snack.  Each classroom made hats for the occasion, watched a fun video, and listened to stories being read throughout the entire day and week.  On Monday, March 17, we celebrated St. Patrick’s Day.  We made leprechauns, shamrocks, and everyone showed off their green attire.  The highlight of the day was, however, magic leprechaun pudding.  On March 19 & 20th, the children had an Easter egg hunt in fellowship hall.  They had fun making baskets, coloring hard-boiled eggs, and making Easter gifts to take home.

During chapel, the children had many opportunities to learn about Jesus and his journey from the wilderness to the cross.  Their palm procession around the building, while carrying their own hand made palms and singing was very uplifting.  On March 13, the children re-created the Passover by making charoset.  They really enjoyed making this special snack by cutting apple slices in small pieces, drizzling honey on it and sprinkling it with cinnamon.  Our pastors served this yummy snack with Matzah during the children’s chapel time.

Now for the business part of the school.  Back on February 11th, we had another open house which was very successful.  We now have 35 children enrolled for school next year, 10 children for our elementary extended care, and 11 children enrolled for our upcoming summer camp.  I’m optimistic our numbers will continue to grow.  If you are interested in finding more about our school, you may go to our recently updated web page at www.stpaulsnewarde.org.  Just click on school for more information.  Many thanks to Pastor Eidell for updating the schools web page.

On Friday April 11th, an Italian dinner and special children’s music program will be held in Fellowship Hall.  This church sponsored fundraiser will help the school repay start-up costs, and benefit the Floyd Wiedman Jr. scholarship fund.  Thrivent Financial for Lutherans will match net proceeds up to $800. The dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. with the children’s performance at 7:00p.m.  The children’s artwork will be displayed for showing.  If anyone has a specialty Italian dish or dessert they would like to donate for this fundraiser, please let me know.  I hope many of you will be able to join us.  This event promises to be fun for all.

May peace be with you today and always,
